Crowdfunding The "Global Embrace" Tour
Orchestras around the world are in trouble. Composers of contemporary “classical” music, along with the orchestras they compose for, are a dying breed.
Jazzical Music proposes to help orchestras through a unique and innovative program. With crowdfund and patron investment, Clovice will perform his piece entitled “The Score” in at least two cities on each of the continents of Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Europe, and Australia - a minimum of 12 cities in all.
This highly accessible four movement piece is tonal and combines elements of classical and jazz into a movie score-like experience for the audience, which is invited to imagine the movie it would be the soundtrack for. The fourth movement, “Love’s Embrace”, features a cello soloist playing the movement in concerto style.
In keeping with the piece’s theme of “A Hero’s Journey”, Clovice will travel to small communities with orchestras not only to perform “The Score” with them, but to discuss community specific strategies to sustain them, and create opportunities for modern composers.
The crowdfunding and patron campaign will fund a “Global Embrace” tour to the initial 12 cities, and pay $5,000 to each orchestra to perform the piece. It will also fund the production of a book and a movie documenting the journey, and to create a template for revitalizing struggling symphonies.
The book, entitled “The Score: A Composer’s Journey”, will describe Clovice's life as a musician and composer. The book will also describe how the “The Score” was composed, and the adventure of traveling to perform it... the people met, the situations encountered, and so on.
The DVD movie, entitled “The Score: A Global Embrace”, will document the actual trip, how music bridges cultures, conversations about strategies to revive orchestras worldwide, and will feature a composite performance of “The Score” by the various orchestras.
The Jazzical Music Foundation will be established to support subsequent international fund raising efforts. A particular focus of the foundation will be to develop music education programs for young string players and composers. The book and movie will then be offered exclusively through the Jazzical Music foundation to musical organizations (orchestras, ensembles, and soloists). Music organizations will purchase the book and DVD for a nominal fee, then sell them at higher cost for donations.

Do You Know an Orchestra That Might Participate?
We invite all orchestras to participate in the “Global Embrace” tour. Click here to listen to and download MP3 versions of each movement, and to view and download scores and parts. The video below is of Clovice's premiere performance of the third movement of "The Score" performed on November 23, 2014 with the Lake County Symphony Orchestra, John Parkinson conducting.
Assuming a successful crowdsource campaign, Jazzical Music will:
- minimize or eliminate the cost of performing "The Score" by paying orchestras $5,000 USD to do so
- pay for its own travel and expenses to final rehearsals and performance
- provide master copies of parts and scores free of charge
What To Do
If you represent an orchestra that is interested in participating, please send an email to Clovice Lewis at clovice@jazzicalmusic.com by April 30, 2015 telling us when you would like to perform “The Score”. We will use that as evidence in our crowd source funding effort that the tour is possible. Please also let us know something about your efforts to raise funding and help music education in your area. We will contact you after (and possibly during the time) we raise money for the “Global Embrace” tour.
If you know of an orchestra that might like to participate, please send an email to Clovice Lewis at clovice@jazzicalmusic.com with the orchestra contact information as soon as possible.
